Activated Thinking 390

For students graduating 4th-5th grade in ’09-’10 school year

Time: 3:15-5:00 PM

Instructor: Mr. Schmitt

Are you someone who has thought, "I think better on my feet," or "I need to walk a bit to process this". Or do you just think better when you're not sitting still? Research shows there are connections between physical movements and how these movements can actually activate parts of your brain that are otherwise left dormant. This class is designed to offer a variety of strategies to students in order to help them activate the prefrontal cortex part of the brain that stimulates deep thinking. These strategies range from stretches to balancing to partner games that all offer fun and innovative ways for students to be active and engaged while processing information. The goal of this class is for each student to exit the course with a strategy they can take with them for the future as they make their way through higher level thinking and cognition. Everyone has parts of their brains that don't get used, but that doesn't mean they can't be activated!

Prerequisites for Activated Thinking 300: Student must have an open mind to exploring strategies unfamiliar to them and a willingness to assess their progress and thinking.
